What a Good Contract Includes
- Full scope of works with detailed specifications
- Agreed total price and a clear payment schedule
- Start and estimated completion dates
- Materials and standards to be used
- Variation and change-order process
- Dispute resolution procedure
- Warranties and guarantees for the work
- Termination clauses and notice periods
Why It Matters
Without a written contract, you have no clear record of what was agreed. If something goes wrong — the builder walks away, the work is substandard, or the price changes — a written contract gives you a basis to seek a remedy.
Before signing, run a Builder Due Diligence RAG check through CheckABuilder to review the builder's paperwork and business information.
The Builder Due Diligence check is temporarily unavailable. You can still get advice or report a rogue builder.
