Report a Rogue Builder

If you believe a builder has acted dishonestly or fraudulently, here are the steps you can take to report them and protect others.

1. Gather Your Evidence

Collect all communications, contracts, receipts, bank transfer records, and any other documentation related to the builder and the work agreed.

2. Report to Trading Standards

Contact your local Trading Standards office or Citizens Advice to report rogue trader activity. They can investigate and take action against dishonest businesses.

3. Report to Action Fraud

If you have been defrauded or a builder has taken money without delivering work, report it to Action Fraud, the UK’s national fraud reporting centre.

4. Consider Legal Action

If you have suffered financial loss, you may be able to pursue a claim through the small claims court or seek professional legal advice.

Check Before You Hire

The best protection against rogue builders is to check before you commit. Run a Builder Due Diligence RAG check through CheckABuilder to review key information about any builder you are considering.
